President’s Message

Strengthening Relationships, Inspiring Generosity

Looking ahead with intention as we strengthen relationships, celebrate generosity, and prepare for the months ahead.

August invites us to look ahead with intention. As campaigns take shape, relationships deepen, and organizations prepare for the final months of the year, the relationships we strengthen today will shape the impact we create tomorrow.

Black Philanthropy Month

August is also Black Philanthropy Month, a time to recognize the extraordinary legacy of generosity, leadership, and collective action within Black communities. Black Philanthropy Month reminds us that some of the most transformative acts of generosity have emerged during times of challenge. When systems fell short, people stepped forward. They shared what they had, lifted one another, built institutions, and created pathways for future generations.

Madam C.J. Walker, often recognized as America’s first self made female millionaire, understood that success carried a responsibility to invest in others. She invested in education, civil rights, and economic opportunity, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire generosity today.

Her example reminds us that meaningful impact comes in many forms through giving, volunteering, mentoring, advocating, and opening doors for others.

Women’s Equality Day

Later this month, we also celebrate Women’s Equality Day on August 26, commemorating the adoption of the 19th Amendment and honoring the generations of women who have expanded access, advanced equity, and strengthened our nation. It is an opportunity to recognize the women who continue to lead, serve, and create lasting change across every sector.

Investing in One Another

At AFP Silicon Valley, we are committed to bringing together current and future fundraising professionals, nonprofit leaders, board members, volunteers, and everyone who helps build a culture of philanthropy. When we invest in one another, we strengthen our organizations, elevate our profession, and create greater impact throughout the communities we serve.

Countdown to Silicon Valley Philanthropy Day

This season also marks the beginning of our countdown to Silicon Valley Philanthropy Day on Friday, November 6. Together, we will celebrate the outstanding leaders, organizations, and philanthropists whose generosity, vision, and commitment strengthen our region.

Please save the date. Tickets go on sale September 1, and we encourage you to take advantage of our early bird pricing by reserving your seat early. We look forward to celebrating the remarkable individuals and organizations who remind us what is possible when generosity and purpose come together.

In Closing

Every time I attend an AFP Silicon Valley event, I am reminded that our greatest strength is one another.

Thank you for sharing your expertise, encouraging your colleagues, and investing in our profession. It is an honor to serve as your President, and I look forward to celebrating with many of you on Friday, November 6.

Bridging the Gap. Together & With Purpose.
