AFPSV provides scholarships to help fundraising professionals access training, meeting attendance, AFP ICON, membership, and certification support.

Chapter Scholarships

Supporting Professional Development for AFPSV Members

The Silicon Valley Chapter of AFP Global has over 200 members working to advance philanthropy through advocacy, research, education, and certification programs. AFPSV offers a variety of Professional Development Scholarships to members, as well as a partial membership scholarship.

In 2019, $4,500 in scholarships were awarded to chapter members from organizations throughout the community.

Scholarship Opportunities

Scholarships are provided to help underwrite the cost of professional development and participation.

Fundraising Academy

Support may be available for AFPSV Fundraising Academy registration costs.

Workshops & Classes

Support may be available for AFPSV workshops, classes, and related learning opportunities.

Conferences & Seminars

Support may be available for local or regional workshops, classes, conferences, or seminars related to development.

AFP ICON

Scholarship support may help members access the AFP International Conference.

Certification Support

Support may be available for study guides or testing for accreditation such as CFRE, ACFRE, AHP, or equivalent.

Membership Scholarship

Depending on available funds, AFPSV may provide partial support for AFP membership costs.

Scholarship Guidelines

It is the goal of the AFP Silicon Valley Chapter to support the professional development of its members. One way AFP SV achieves this goal is by providing financial assistance in the form of scholarships.

Eligibility

  • Be employed by, or be an independent consultant for, a public benefit corporation.
  • Dedicate at least 50% of their time to fundraising.
  • Be a member of AFPSV, unless applying for a membership scholarship.
  • Uphold the Ethical Standards of Philanthropy as established by AFP Global.

Professional Development Rules

Depending on funds available, AFPSV will provide up to 50% of the registration cost or fee for eligible professional development opportunities. Individuals are only eligible to receive funds for professional development once a year, though they may receive both professional development and membership scholarship assistance in the same year.

Application Timing

  • Applications are due the first day of each month.
  • Applicants will be notified within 30 days.
  • For non-AFPSV training or education, include a class description, summary, or agenda with the application.

Reimbursement Requirements

For non-AFPSV events, applicants must submit proof of payment to info@afpsv.org after being notified of an award. Applicants must also submit a copy of the event registration form and proof of attendance to receive reimbursement.

Membership Scholarships

Depending on funds available, AFPSV will provide up to 50% of the cost of AFP membership. Scholarships will not exceed $150 per applicant per year for no more than two years, with the balance paid by the applicant or their employer.

Chamberlain Scholarship

Applications open in the fall for the following year’s AFP International Conference (ICON).

  • Be an AFPSV member in good standing for at least three years.
  • Be employed as a fundraising professional for at least three years.
  • Have never attended an AFP International Conference.
  • Agree to share the conference experience through chapter communications or programming.
  • Agree to serve on an AFPSV committee for one year following the conference.
